About Riseley Folk

Welcome!

Well, this is the very first “Riseley Folk” but we hope it won’t be the last!

So what’s it all about? Well, although I’m not a musician, I’ve been following folk music now for around twenty years. I’ve seen some great bands in that time and thoroughly enjoyed the scene and the company of the people surrounding the music. I’ve often thought that it would be great to host an evening of music, but never quite had the nerve, the time, the reason and certainly not the experience!

Recently, I’ve become involved with Riseley Community Theatre, a group
which started out as an amateur dramatic group in the village, but has
expanded to include other activities such as ‘Mummers’ (traditional street
theatre) and a thriving Youth Theatre, which does some great work with
our youngsters, completely free of charge. Of course any voluntary
group needs funding, so...there’s the reason!

Then conversations with a couple of great people, Tim Durrant and
Andrew Miller convinced me that this wasn’t just a pipe dream and I
should go for it. Since then, help from Andrew, his daughter Chrissie
and many others, has since been freely given, so here we are!

I like to think we’re offering a great mix of artists, with something for everyone, but it’s not just music,
there’s Morris Dancing and a Mummers Play too! I particularly hope we get plenty of younger people coming along and getting their first taste of the folk music scene. And above all, I hope we sell every single ticket and see you again next year!

Best wishes,

Clive
