Calum sung from a young age and always enjoyed songs with a strong and
memorable melody. He first came into contact with traditional Irish music when
he was in school at St Albans and was lucky enough to become involved with
Niall Keegan, a member of one of the best Ceilidh bands in the world!
Following his introduction to traditional music Calum moved to Bedford and
joined the group 'Connemara'. This was a dance band and so taught him
about strict time, musical styles and professional approach to performance.
The band changed to a more up tempo concert group heavily influenced
by the Clare group 'Stockton's Wing'. After a few short years the group
disbanded and Calum went solo.
A solo career meant that sets could become free flowing and possible to
try out new songs. By now, Calum was sharing the stage with a wide
range of Irish performers from Joe Dolan to Stockton's Wing, who clearly
made a huge impression on him.
About 12 years ago Calum had a change in career and decided to go
into teaching which left very little time for other activities especially when
combined with three children and so the music had to stop. But then, having reached a certain age
he decided to give it another go...we’re very grateful that he did!
