Riseley Community Theatre, has set out to explore different aspects of
performance art and, with this aim, our Mummers group was formed last
year. The Mummers play is a form of medieval street theatre, which tells
traditional stories using a range of archetypal characters.
Our first offering was “St. George and the Dark Night”, which was
based on the traditional theme of good triumphing over evil and draws
on traditional dialogue. Our group takes the traditional themes, adds
some new characters and modern ideas with a generous sprinkling of humour!
Audiences in pubs, fetes and village shows have appreciated
our efforts this year but at Riseley Folk, we will be performing
a new play “Robin Hood – Mummers in Tights”...do we need
to say more?
